As part of our count down to the premiere of Syfy’s “Defiance” on April 15th, we caught up with linguist David Peterson who developed a series of alien languages that have become common parlance on the earth of 2046, which is when the show takes place. In this video Peterson, who also developed the Dothraki language used in “Game of Thrones,” shares a little about what went into inventing the way aliens communicate with one another. Hear him talk all about it in our video, and don’t forget to tune into Syfy on April 15th for the premiere of “Defiance.”
Get ready — In just 6 days it will be 2046, there will be new rules of engagement, new neighbors and a completely new Earth. All of which is to say that the humans across the globe are getting ready to tune in to Syfy’s new show “Defiance” when it debuts on April 15th.
Here’s the scene: over thirty years after various alien races arrived on Earth, the landscape is completely altered, terraformed nearly beyond recognition. To the town of Defiance, on what used to be St. Louis, comes the mysterious Nolan (Grant Bowler) and his charge, Irisa (Stephanie Leonidas). As they settle into town – overseen by the mayor, Amanda Rosewater (Julie Benz) and filled with residents like the powerful Rafe McCawley (Graham Greene), enterprising lounge owner Kenya (Mia Kirshner) and the ambitious, alien Tarrs (Tony Curran and Jaime Murray) – events begin to unfold that threaten the fragile peace this border town has fought for.
As the events of Defiance unfold weekly on your TV screen, you can see how the residents’ struggles impact the game of Defiance, a high-octane, multi-platform experience from Trion Worlds! For the first time in history, a TV show and a game will exist concurrently in a shared universe, influencing and impacting the other!
We talked to stars Julie Benz and Grant Bowler about their characters on the show, and why this will be like no other show on television. Check it out and don’t forget to tune into Syfy on April 15th at 9/8c!
