For the first time, competition at the Olympic Winter Games will begin one day prior to the Opening Ceremony, with NBC producing a primetime show the night before the opening ceremony. As a result, NBC will begin its primetime coverage of the 2014 Sochi Olympics on Thursday, February 6, 2014, one night before the broadcast network provides its traditional primetime coverage of the Opening Ceremony on Friday, February 7, 2014.

We spoke with NBC Olympics President, Gary Zenkel, about what preparations are currently going on in Sochi, what new games we will be seeing in 2014, and what marketing approaches NBC is taking to fuel the world-wide excitement!

Ann Curry traveled to the far side of the world to secure an interview with the director of The Lord Of The Rings trilogy about the soon-to-be-released The Hobbit. We sat down to talk with Ann about her experience in New Zealand, where she interviewed Peter, how he resembles a hobbit himself, and the prized possession Peter Jackson calls his very own “precious.”
